My Experience with Covid

When Covid started, it was in fourth grade. It was ok at first. There were no masks yet but then the whole state shut down in March the year of 2019. Before it shut down, everyone was going to the stores and buying all the food they could and lots of cleaning supplies so they wouldn’t have to go out during Covid. They didn’t want to get Covid.

When everything shut down, it was very close to my birthday. My birthday is March 21. I was very unhappy that I wouldn’t be able to have a party or go out for my birthday.  My mom and I made cupcakes ourselves. We made chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing and colored red and yellow colored icing, so that we could make softball cupcakes. Even though we didn’t get to go and celebrate my birthday, I still liked that we actually did something. I got one present but that was enough for me! I got the new iphone 11. My dad was making dinner before they gave it to me. They told me to go get in the shower and as soon as I got out, they handed me the phone. I was so happy!

Since we couldn’t go anywhere, my mom and I were bored.  I would pack us a picnic lunch of sandwiches, chips, cookies and pop, and we would go to the end of our yard near the hill side that is covered with brush and sit on a sheet. My papaw would brush mow the hill but leave some behind, so after we ate we would go and pull out those sticks and roots. After we did that, we would lay down on the bed sheet and look at the mountains. We would be so tired. We had splinters in our hands and our backs were hurting very, very badly. We would go inside and take our showers and put our pajamas on and lay in our beds or our couch and watch TV.

Then Halloween came. I was looking for costumes online, but then my dad told me that we weren’t going to go trick or treating because of Covid. At that point, my mom had to go back to work, so then it was just me and my dad. My dad bought three big huge bags of candy and mini brands because I was absolutely crazy about them at that time. My dad made us some hot chocolate, and I ate a lot of my candy. I was opening my mini brand while my dad was looking for scary movies. We found a new Chucky movie that we had never seen before. We watched a lot of scary movies on Halloween, and I actually liked it better than going out and trick or treating.

Since Covid happened, I couldn’t do any sports. I was going to sign up for softball, but it got canceled. I wanted to try it out because I hadn’t liked softball since that’s how I cracked my finger. I wanted to try it again. I was mad and sad because I wasn’t going to be able to play. Then basketball came around, and I was going to sign up because at that time it was my favorite sport. But because of Covid, I couldn’t. It got canceled as well. I really wanted to play because at that time that was the only sport I played.

This year we got to go back to school normally and not virtual. It is not as hard now. We do have to wear masks, but it’s way better than being virtual. This year we also get to play sports and hopefully it stays that way for a long, long time.
